BP Angola chose GPS HDPE liner for corrosion protection in its Angola Block 18 water injection project.

The Greater Plutonio Development is operated by BP and located in deepwater offshore from Angola, with proven reserves in five fields with an anticipated field life of 25 years. The fields are spread over a wide area with water depth varying from 1,200m to 1,500m. The development uses 43 subsea wells – 20 producers, 20 water injectors and three gas injectors – tied back to a single spread moored FPSO (a floating production, storage and offloading vessel) to process produced fluids and export crude. Injection water is transported by a single flowline for the Northern system and by two flowlines in the Southern system. Water injection (WI) of treated produced water, supplemented by treated seawater, is used to provide reservoir pressure maintenance.

Having trusted GPS to supply PE liners for North Sea installations since 1994, BP were satisfied the HDPE liner for Angola Block 18 WI project would be supplied to the required specification and act as an effective corrosion barrier for carbon steel (CS) pipes. GPS manufactured 25km of SDR21.7 liner pipe, for lining a 14’’ CS pipe (330mm OD x 22mm), and 31m of SDR19.8 liner pipe, for lining a 12’’ CS pipe (300mm OD x 20mm), for Northern and Southern WI systems with delivery Luanda, Angola. The scope of work also included testing and documentation of liners in accordance with strict specifications supplied by Technip.

To meet the tight delivery schedule, all 56km of PE liner pipe were produced within just 14 weeks and  delivered direct to the docks within the timeframe required. All manufactured material had identification traceability and certification.  Installation of liner was undertaken by UPS of Canada and was laid by the Technip reel ship Apache.
