Race for WaterAid with Thames Water
The annual charity Raft Race, organised by Thames Water, took place on Thursday 23 July. It saw a fantastic turn out of twenty-six teams, consisting of Thames Water contractors, partnering companies, employees and local businesses. Teams of six competed in the one-mile race on the River Thames at Reading. Over £20,000 is hoped to be raised through sponsorship and team entries in support of WaterAid.
The event proved to be a fantastic day of networking, fundraising and fun with great entertainment for all involved. With a 'Lord of the Rafts' theme, the location was as colourful as ever; filled with people in fancy dress costumes and rafts decorated around the ‘Lord of the Rings’ films. Friendly competition prevailed and even continuous drenching and getting muddy could not stop copious amounts of shouting and laughing.
GPS PE Pipe Systems were delighted to support this event, building a raft, entering the competition and getting soaked in the name of good cause. As for everybody involved, it was taking part that counted, but collecting this year’s ‘Best Dressed Raft’ award was a pleasant icing on the cake.
GPS regularly engages in various WaterAid fundraising events organised by their customer partners. With a long history of partnership between Thames Water and GPS, it is no surprise that they share the same passion of supporting WaterAid in providing water and sanitation to the world’s poorest people.
