New Safety Device for the Gas Industry
A pre-calibrated safety device for polyethylene pipe systems is now available from GPS PE Pipe Systems, allowing gas engineers, for the first time in the UK, to dispense with the expensive and cumbersome excess flow limiters currently in use.
Designed to operate in the medium pressure (75 millibar to 2 bar) range, the GPS excess flow valve (EFV) is ready for immediate service and self-setting, whereas conventional devices need on-site calibration and testing. The saving in time and cost is particularly significant on new housing developments with multiple service connections.
The device is integrated into the standard, GPS 32mm electrofusion coupler, or the 32mm x 25mm electrofusion reducer, making the installation process completely routine. Inside the coupler, the fitting resembles a non-return valve, which prevents any surge in gas pressure from being transmitted to domestic service pipes and equipment. A sprung, conical plunger and seat immediately close when the pressure reaches a preset limit, while a purge hole then allows controlled equalisation of pressure.
